Engineer (m/f/x)

Developing and testing solutions to solve technical issues within our manufacturing environment; that’s the top priority for our engineers!

In our factory in Merthyr Tydfil, we produce and pack up to 50 tons of wafer, marshmallow bars, toffees and eclairs per day on a large variety of production and packaging lines and machines. The effects of a downtime can then only be guessed at. It is up to you and the rest of the Engineering team to prevent these downtimes from happening and if they do happen, to keep them as short as possible.

You will operate the designated production department according to plan and maintain equipment efficiency, whilst ensuring that all specified standards (e.g. food safety and quality), policies, guidelines and regulatory requirements are complied with.

The job

Besides the above-mentioned main responsibilities, the job includes (but is most certainly not limited to):

  • operating to the planned preventative maintenance within the department, ensuring that all machinery and ancillary services are covered and reporting back any issues in within this plan to the Engineering or Section Manager;
  • identifying and troubleshooting process, material, or equipment problems to minimize downtime and recommending solutions;
  • developing, assembling, procuring, or modifying existing and new tooling, fixtures, and/or equipment to ensure production efficiency;
  • assisting with revisions and improvements to manufacturing methods and procedures, including writing change orders and deviations;
  • conducting time studies to quantify processing times and inspecting products to identify areas for process improvement and provide hands-on training to operators;
  • scheduling, performing and documenting routine maintenance on manufacturing and test equipment; and
  • actively promoting and supporting Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with quality system requirements and collaborating with contractors on project specifications.

Our ideal candidate:

  • ONC/VRQ, with a NVQ level 3 in mechanical and electrical qualification;
  • Competent in PLC programming (basic understanding level accepted);
  • Proven track record in maintaining machinery that uses pneumatic valves, bearings, shafts, pumps, and gearboxes;
  • Experience with 3-phase equipment;
  • Experience with wrapping machines is an advantage;
  • Has a nose for electrical and mechanical fault finding and a problem-solving mindset;
  • Team player with good communication skills and flexibility to adapt;
  • High level of commitment and initiative;
  • Willing to work rotational shifts (including days, afternoons, and nights).

Does the above sounds like you and would you like to contribute to a smooth continuous manufacturing process and enjoy the benefits of being one of the first to try new products? Apply now!
